Landscape Photography Workshops
These workshops are arranged to suit you depending on what you want to photograph and what you want to learn. If you want to get together with your partner or friend for a joint day of tuition then that is great.
The huge advantage of the one to one tuition packages is they are completely focused on you. We can start at sunrise or finish at sunset, we can photograph mountains or the coast, we can walk for miles or drive to roadside locations, we can cover as many topics as you want such as composition, focusing, seeing detail as well as the landscape, and so on. The choice of itinerary is really yours - we will plan it all beforehand so you know exactly what to expect.
What to Expect
When we meet, we go to the first location and talk about how much you know so I can get a feel for your level so I can bring you up to speed. There are two sides to photography - the technical side which is the camera settings, etc. and the aesthetic side which is composing the photo. Throughout the day, we work on both of these aspects so by the end you will feel confident with your equipment and how to take landscape photos.
Fitness Level
I have had workshops with people who can walk for miles and also people who have had limited mobility. The workshop will cater for your ability and for how much you are prepared to walk - this will all be discussed beforehand so we can work on an intinerary that suits you. If you have limited mobility, we can make sure we are never far from the car.
Workshop Length
The half day workshops are approximately 4 hours and the full days are approximately 8 hours. We can make sure we take in a sunrise or sunset if that is something you would like to do. There is no rush on the workshop and we take it entirely at your pace.
Equipment
You will need to bring clothes appropriate for the weather, although it can get rather cold waiting around for sunset and standing in one place for a while so it is better to over pack than under pack. Even in summer, hats and gloves can be useful for sunsets. Being Wales, rain showers can happen any time. A tripod is recommended too, and is essential for sunrise and sunset. A hot drink and some snacks are great too plus a packed lunch if on a full day workshop.
Experience
No real experience is necessary and I can cater for all levels of experience whether you are a complete novice or more of an expert. If you are a complete novice or overwhelmed by all the buttons on your camera, I can teach you everything you need to know to take landscape photos. The more competent photographer often comes on a workshop to see how a professional photographer works rather than to learn about camera settings. If you would like to come to a workshop with just your mobile phone, this is fine too - you won't be able to change many of the settings that you can on DSLRs, but we can concentrate on seeing the picture and also the landscape at our feet.
How to Book
When you decide to book a workshop, you pay online (or over the phone if you prefer) and then we arrange a date that suits both of us. Should the weather forecast be bad or if work gets in the way, we can postpone to the next suitable date. There isn't any expiry date on the workshops so there is no need to worry if we have to postpone several times. Please do feel free to email or phone me to discuss before booking.
